Our company is looking into ways to alleviate the problems most employees with rising gas prices - a small raise to compensate for the expenses of driving to work, allowing employees to go to four 10-hour days rather than five 8-hour days, telecommuting from home one day a week, setting up a carpool bank, etc. Can you do a story about what companies are doing in this gas crisis, if anything?

Bill,

Thank you for your insights and observations. I too, have examined some of the drivers to support working remotely. My observations have led me to believe that our "near universal" disappointment in the results of 'telework' to date indicates may mean we have not found the best model or models. I have developed a specific multi-location approach in an effort to find a more effective model for remote working. Two recently published and uniquely similar titled books where released in the past several months that are timely reminders of our changing world - "The Big Squeeze" by Steven Greenhouse and "The Big Switch" by Nicolas Carr. I believe the distributed workplace approach may be at the intersection of the general observations of these two books. Please visit my website. I would appreciate your feedback. You apparently understand the HR dilemma.
