If you have a wellness program — or are considering one — there may be help available that won’t cost your firm an extra dime.

Many employers overlook community-based health resources available to employers for free or at minimal cost. In some cases,  it’s a great way to supplement services that aren’t offered in your wellness vendor’s plan.

Examples: Some local branches of the American Heart Association offer free or nominal cost blood-pressure testing. The American Cancer Society can provide referrals to dermatologists who offer onsite skin cancer screenings at little or no cost to an employer. Some nonprofit men’s health groups can direct employees to low-cost prostate cancer screenings.

Even if onsite screening services themselves aren’t available to your employees, the agencies are almost always be happy to provide educational literature for employees about why they should get screened for certain health risks.

Just for the asking, you can build up a library of wellness education materials.

If the wellness as part of active prevention is a goal, than it is important to know, that Wellness is a system of interrelated basics. Our physical, mental and overall well-being is based on four interrelated areas: rest & relaxation, environment, nutrition and fitness. These four keys of wellness are not only individually significant, but they are mutually dependent. The objective of physical well-being is to keep these four areas in balance. When all are in harmony, the results can be a dramatic improvement in our quality of life. The best place to start is in your home by creating a wellness home. Any home can be turned into Wellness home, which provides benefits in body and mind for the entire family, and helps us deal successfully with the challenges of modern life by creating an environment that supports family health and happiness.
